So many things to ponder..
So I'll be honest - I've only been to one major Spanish city - Madrid. I've just moved here after a 9 month affair with my boyfriend, A, and I'm finding the culture is taking some getting used to. Not in a bad way... it's just... different. Like it always is when you shift continents and languages. I've been to two towns outside of the metropolis - Segovia and Navacerrado. Both are exceptionally beautiful, and both seem to share the same oddities that I have been finding in Madrid city.
So I'll muse away, ponder these differences, and blog about whatever takes my fancy really - it's a blog for myself as much as it is for my friends and strangers. I hope you, dear reader, will learn new things reading it, whether they be about myself or Madrid or Spanish culture in general.
The first thing that has me curious today is bread. You order food, whatever it may be, and pretty much unless it's a sandwich, it comes with these huge hunks of bread. You don't ask for this - you just receive it. And there's no butter, no olive oil or balsamic.. just bread. Dry bread. And when you go to pay the bill later, you notice you've been charged for it - despite not asking for it, and perhaps not even eating it. Very, very strange indeed.
Till next time,
M x
